Studies on The Etching Time For Lr-115 Type II Films

چکیده
According to the manufacturer (Kodak pathe) of the LR-115 Type 2 films, which are widely used in environmental radioactivity studies, the exposed films should be etched in 10% solution of NaOH, while the temperature of the etching solution is to be kept at 60C. The optimum time of etching depends on different conditions; like geometry of the bath, temperature etc. To determine the optimal etching time, the uniformly exposed films were etched for different time periods ranging from 30 minutes to 120 minutes with 2.5 N NaOH at 600.5C in 3 different modes i) without stirring, ii) with continuous mild stirring using magnetic stirrer and iii) with intermittent stirring. The results revealed that 90 minutes of etching without any stirring is the best method for these films.

Surface Chemical Etching Behavior of Lr-115 Type Ii Solid State Nuclear Track Detector
Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs) are well known for the detection of ionizing radiation through track formation of heavy ionizing particles. The LR-115 detector is a commonly used SSNTD for the detection and measurement of Rn and its progeny. Several techniques of track revelation are known but, the chemical etching technique is the most frequently used in which tracks can be made v...
متن کاملFast and non-destructive determination of active-layer thickness of LR 115 SSNTD using a color commercial document scanner
Measurements using the LR 115 solid-state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) depend critically on the removed thickness of the active layer during etching, which cannot be controlled by the etching period alone. For example, the bulk etch rate depends significantly on the strength of stirring during etching. We propose here a fast, inexpensive and nondestructive method based on a color commercial d...
متن کاملA fast method to measure the thickness of removed layer from etching of SSNTD based on EDXRF
Solid state nuclear track detectors are commonly used for measurements of concentrations of radon gas and/or radon progeny. All these measurements depend critically on the thickness of the removed layer during etching. However, the thickness of removed layer calculated using the etching period does not necessarily provide a su7ciently accurate measure of the thickness. For example, the bulk etc...

متن کاملEffect of Gamma Rays on The Bulk Etching Rate of LR-115 Detector
It is important to measure the bulk-etching rate for any solid state nuclear track detectors, because they have an application in different fields of sciences. The effect of gamma rays emitted from 60 Co source with different doses on LR-115 detector was studied. The bulk etching rate of the detectors was measured before and after irradiation using gamma source. From the results the values of t...
